Making an Address Song

Memorizing an address is such an important thing to do. We can do everything in our best efforts to ensure that we are never in a situation where our child has to know our address without us, but emergencies can and do happen. We need to be prepared for an emergency – but in a way that is fun and nonthreatening.

Someone who works in my office building gave me the idea of making sure that Rio always knew the address to our home with a song. Songs are a great way to memorize things (which I can strongly attest to as I can still sing the presidents of the United States to the tune of “Just Dance” because I used that to memorize them when I was in high school).

Rio loves the ABC song that goes to the same tune as “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”. I used that song to build our address. Our address is very unique, so I didn’t need to include the city name too, but the words we use would go like “Two Four Four Eight Richton Street is my address; help me please.” The two four four eight Richton Street part is letters A-G, the is my address part is letters H-K, and the help me please part is L-P. This is obviously not our real address, but the syllables line up the same.

As I know he loves the tune from the way he smiles, I know that this is going to stick in his head easily and he will be able to recall the address easily in the event he needs it. Let me know if you need help putting your address in a song! I would be more than happy to help.
